RecordBoard Now Feeds Your Daktronics Scoreboard

Field event results on the stadium board, automatically, from the pit. RecordBoard Sync now sends live results to Daktronics All Sport 5000 and Venus 7000 controllers via UDP RTD packets — no operator, no radio call.

Field event results have always been the last thing to appear on the stadium scoreboard — if they appear at all. The shot put is done in the first hour of the meet. The results are on paper at the pit. The scoreboard operator never gets them. The board stays blank for field events while the stadium runs updates for every 100m heat.

That's the problem RecordBoard Sync now solves.

What changed

RecordBoard Sync — the desktop app that already handles FinishLynx file exchange — now sends live field event results directly to Daktronics All Sport 5000 and Venus 7000 scoreboard controllers via UDP RTD packets.

The moment a judge records a throw or jump in RecordBoard, Sync polls the live results and transmits an RTD FLD packet to your controller over your facility's LAN. The scoreboard updates. No operator. No radio call. No delay.

Why this matters for college programs

If your venue already runs a Daktronics system, you paid for that hardware. You want it showing results. Until now, field events were the exception — not because the scoreboard can't display them, but because there was no clean path from a judge's clipboard to the controller.

RecordBoard closes that path:

Pit → Judge's phone → RecordBoard → RecordBoard Sync → Daktronics controller → Scoreboard

Every step is automatic after the judge taps the result. The scoreboard sees a new mark within seconds.

This matters in particular for D-I and D-II programs running multi-event invitationals where athletes, coaches, and spectators expect stadium-quality presentation. The throwing events — shot put, discus, hammer, javelin — are often running while the track is active. Results hitting the board in real time keeps the stadium experience continuous.

How the setup works

RecordBoard Sync is a double-click installer for Windows and macOS — no terminal, no config files. Version 2.x adds a Daktronics panel alongside the existing FinishLynx panel.

  1. Open RecordBoard Sync on the timing or operations laptop
  2. Go to the Scoreboard tab, enter your Daktronics controller's IP address and port (default: 21300)
  3. Select your controller model — All Sport 5000 or Venus 7000
  4. Hit Connect — Sync starts polling live results and sending RTD packets

The app runs in the system tray and stays out of the way. It only requires a LAN connection between the laptop running Sync and the Daktronics controller. No internet required for the scoreboard output — everything stays on the facility network.

Important: This is a LAN/UDP setup. Your Daktronics controller needs to be reachable on the same network segment as the laptop running Sync. Most college facilities with a permanent Daktronics installation already have this in place. If you're unsure, your A/V or facilities team can confirm the controller IP.

The full-stadium picture

Combined with the existing FinishLynx integration, RecordBoard Sync now handles two of the most critical data flows at a college track meet from a single desktop app:

| Output | Protocol | Hardware | |---|---|---| | FinishLynx start lists & result import | LinX File Exchange (.LIF / .PPL) | Timing system laptop | | Daktronics scoreboard | UDP RTD FLD packets | All Sport 5000 / Venus 7000 |

RecordBoard Sync is the only field event software in the US that integrates with both Leica DISTO laser measurement devices and Daktronics scoreboards. If you already have a Leica on the throwing runway and a Daktronics board on your stadium, RecordBoard connects all three — laser to judge app to scoreboard — without any additional hardware or manual steps.

Who this is for

This is built for NCAA D-I and D-II programs that already own Daktronics hardware. If your facility runs an All Sport 5000 or Venus 7000, you can start feeding it field event results today.

It's also the answer to the most common objection from college programs evaluating RecordBoard: "We already have a scoreboard system." Yes, you do. RecordBoard now feeds it.
